New museum at Resorts World Sentosa to play ‘tricks’ on your eyes

The region’s first Trickeye Museum is coming to Singapore in the middle of the year.

The region’s first Trickeye Museum, a play of words on “Trompe-l’oeil” meaning “trick of the eye” in French, is coming to Singapore in the middle of the year.

The concept, popularised in South Korea, features two-dimensional paintings that that can be seen in 3D due to an optical illusion.

Visitors to the 800 sq m museum at Resorts World Sentosa can pose within the frames to become subjects within the 80 paintings.

Director of the Trickeye Museum in South Korea – which already has three locations in Seoul, Jeju and Busan – Ms Sujin Seong, says choosing Singapore as the museum’s first overseas offshoot was an “obvious choice”.

She says: “Since we initiated this popular concept in Seoul in 2010, we always wanted to expand the footprint of Trickeye beyond the shores of Korea. As a key tourism hub, Singapore was the obvious choice… and (will) provide more compelling reasons for tourists from around the world to come visit.”

She is also considering opening branches of the museum in Chinese cities such as Beijing, Shenzhen, Chongqing and Hainan.

The Trickeye Museum will be the anchor tenant at RWS’ waterfront strip, which will also be transformed into a “Little Korea” by the middle of the year, with South Korean F&B and fashion outlets to ride on the popularity of Korean exports such as music and television shows.
